COVID-19 and Microeconomic Resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Study on Ethiopian and Nigerian Households

The severity of the COVID-19 pandemic on overall welfare depends resilience microeconomic units, particularly households, to cope and recover from shocks created by pandemic. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where has been less pervasive, is expected increase food insecurity, vulnerability, ultimately poverty. To accurately measure impact macroeconomy, it important account for distributional households ability with it, which reflects their resilience. this paper, we seek determine differential impacts household in Africa. We use direct measurements economic indicators 6249 across Ethiopia Nigeria. Given that a latent variable, FAO’s Resilience Index Measure Analysis (RIMA) framework utilized construct index. hypothesize among Study findings show government containment measures improved resilience, while self-containment lowered Additionally, relied wage employment non-farm businesses as main source livelihood were found be more resilient.
